Learning the Writing Process in 5th Grade by Mrs. Peirce

Writing Process

IMG_20141212_112337In Fifth Grade students are learning the Writing Process to improve their writing skills. First, they organize their thoughts with a Graphic Organizer. Second, students write their ideas into complete sentences in a Rough Draft. Next, they expand and improve their writing by adding adjectives, details, or combining sentences as they Revise. Then, they Edit by correcting grammer and spelling errors. Last, students write the Final Draft in their best penmanship using a pen.

They have used this process to write two book reports and most recently a “How to” paragraph. Topics included “How to Walk a Dog,” and “How to Make a Grilled Cheese Sandwich.” Writing is an important life skill, and CCA fifth graders are learning to express themselves clearly through the Writing Process.
